World Environment Day - 05^th June 2018

"National Environment Week" - from 30^th May to 05^th June

Following activities will be conducted during the Environment week.

• Conduct lagoons (mangroves) cleaning programmes (in Negombo, Oluvil) and harbor cleanup programmes (in Cod bay, Kalpitiya, Beruwala, Panadura, Kirinda & Galle)
• Establish a final waste disposal site in Kegalle District.
• Provide waste bins for required agencies and public places with the collaboration of private sector
• Establish a plastic collection center in Kegalle municipal council.
• Organize awareness programs to government officials on waste management, electronic waste material & disposal of plastic
• Introduce Beach Care takers and provide special jackets for them.
• Provide tools and equipment for oil spill response team.
• Organize island wide tree planting programmes.
• Provide trees to government officers for planting.
• Declare the "Shastarawella mangrove area" in Ampara District as a conservation forest
• Establish Urban Green Park in Negombo area
• Implement "Thuru Jana Sisu Bank" Tree Planting Programme for 10 schools in Kegalle District.
• Provide Agricultural tools & library books for schools.
• Publish environmental related magazine like "Sath Samudura" , "Soba", etc
• Launch a base line survey date on Bio ecology, conducted in Colombo, Galle, Trincomalee & Hambantota harbors.
• Gazette 106 Ha of sand dune area in Pothuvil, Panama as a reservation
• Conduct awareness Programme for farmers on soil conservation.
